The kids are giggling and playing by the toy box and searching for the perfect toy to play with. I'm wondering if Brody might need a change of diaper, so I lean down and give his bottom a sniff. A minute later Claire is down on the floor, leaning down to sniff as well. Oopsie, better watch myself, even though the story is funny, it isn't a habit I want to teach! *Note - Claire does like to smell everything. **Note 2 - he was not in need of a diaper!

Well, it could be a handy skill for when her brother arrives. Whit could just ask Claire if he he has "poopoo" and she could do the sniff test and tell her. How convenient would that be?
We had a term in our house for 10 years - "sniff check." Lift the baby, quick sniff and give an "all clear" or a good old Norwegian "Uff da!"
None of the boys do this today, so no matter how often you model it, it is unlikely that Claire will still be doing it in Kindergarten, or prom. The only time she's likely to do it is when it is least appropriate - like when Whitney's boss is on hand.
